ROLEPLAYING & MINIATURES

Patreon Intro

Swaying trees of forests, flowing water, billowing fog and flickering flames of torches and campfires? All of these can now appear on fantasy battle maps to make the gaming experience even more immersive.

My dream has been to bring gaming maps to life since I first laid my TV as a gaming table to play Dungeons & Dragons adventures on it. I became a pioneer of motion maps in 2018 and over the years, Dynamic Dungeons has grown into a supportive community of thousands of patrons, allowing me to offer the largest animated fantasy map catalogue.

Each one of my maps is a looping video, a meticulously designed action scene with amazing details, but not affecting the story of a roleplaying game. In addition to the wonderful live fantasy environment, each motion map features well-composed ambient sounds creating the perfect atmosphere for you to take your imagination to the next level.

Not only am I creating looping video files in the grid and gridless versions but also high quality still images and WEBM versions of each map for virtual tabletop platforms.

By becoming a Chaotic Good patron, you will immediately get access to more than 300 animated and static maps. Support 3 creations in a month and you will receive the exclusive maps as well.

Your Support

I will continue creating and releasing 2-3 animated map packs (including statics and WEBM versions) monthly, a DungeonCity, Wilderness, Underdark or a Cave encounter scene, even free fan content for popular, official WOTC modules.

Thanks to the support of my generous patrons, now I work on Dynamic Dungeons full time, creating two or three motion map packs every month.

How does it work?

If you click "become a patron", you will immediately get access to all previous rewards for free and be able to choose a donation tier for future releases. I currently have tiers ranging from $1, $2 all the way up to $5, most of which granting rewards like HD and UHD video files and high quality still images and WEBM files.

You can cancel or adjust your patronage at any time. The number of map packs I publish each month determines how much you contribute. For example, if you pledge $5 per map pack and that month I publish 2 rewards, you'll contribute $10 for that month. If I fail to release maps, you will not be billed.

One reward will grant you more than a single map: usually even more than 2 designs.

I make a number of map variations so the scenes could be used in multiple ways. If you want to get everything and have full access, choose the Chaotic Good tier level and support 3 creations/month.

I will strive to provide an increasing amount of content for the community. Patrons who support every (meaning all 3) creation in the month get extra maps and special rewards.

A large part of the money donated to this Patreon goes to supporting this project. (I'll buy new 3d models and plugins to bring you better and better content)

Dynamic Dungeons Editor

I develop a local tabletop tool for game masters that use a TV or projector to map different premade backgrounds, videos, and images. Animations and particle effects, tokens, and audio files can be used to immerse your players. You can import and project Dynamic Dungeons maps or your own images or video files, make a playlist, cover and reveal areas with the fog of war tool, and apply custom size hex or quad grid overlay. A demo version is available now for free. Try it now!

Who am I?

My name is Tamas, a 3D designer, musician, and dungeon master, father of three.

Thank you for noticing and paying attention to my Patreon page!

I hope you are inspired by my work and you'll have a lot of good time roleplaying!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How to play on the TV screen with minis?

Playing on the Tv screen is easier than you think. Simply lay flat your TV. You can protect the screen with a cheap plexiglass sheet, and use dry or wet-erase markers on it, so miniatures and dice rolls won't damage the surface of the Tv. You can also project down the video onto a physical table with an HD projector.

How can the grid be displayed precisely as a 1” grid on my setup?

The gridded HD maps are optimized for a 40” Tv, where the size of the squares are exactly 1”. The 4k maps are optimized for a 50”TV. If you have a smaller or larger screen, I suggest playing the gridless versions of the maps with the  Dynamic Dungeons Editor and Player app where you can set custom hexa and quad grid overlay.

TV or projector?

Although both solutions are possible, TVs are more widespread and it’s what I would recommend as well. Let’s look at the pros and cons of the various forms of display: Horizontal or table-installed TV Pros:

  • superb brilliance and contrast even in bright surroundings at an affordable price

  • The TV remote controller offers fast access to detailed color settings, which can effectively modify the display

  • HDMI audio is available through the speakers of the TV

Cons:

  • the screen has to be protected with Plexiglas against scratches

  • The use of metal dice should be avoided on Plexiglas surfaces and it should be protected against spills from drinks (unless the display is installed under a closed protective surface)

Projector Pros:

  • No need to protect the projected surface from spilled drinks or scratches

  • Play surfaces of varying sizes can be projected depending on the positioning of the device

Cons:

  • Designing a suspension system and mounting a projector on the ceiling can be difficult and troublesome

  • Only the most expensive devices offer the contrast and brilliance of a TV set in bright surroundings

  • The hands of players cast a shadow on the table

  • produces heat and noise

  • Most projectors don’t feature speakers or in a lower quality than TVs.

What kind of TV should I use?

A 40” full HD resolution LCD device is a perfect choice. If you are planning to buy a TV for gaming purposes, I recommend choosing a device with HDMI ports on the side and not the back. Avoid using TVs with an installed glass surface significantly distanced from the screen surface. (This was typical of older models. Due to the distance between the glass surface and the screen, you might experience a floating effect when viewing the figures placed on the screen from the side) A 30” screen is fine, yet it will result in a smaller play surface, and you should consider buying the Dynamic Dungeons Player to apply 1" grid on the video maps.

Will it harm my TV if I lay it down on its back and put miniatures on top of it?

You can use plasma, LCD or Led Tv (which is basically an LCD screen, but with LED backlighting), but which type TV it is doesn’t really matter for this predicament, as no flat screen is filled with floating gasses or millions of drops of anti-gravity techno-color liquids :). Nothing is going to settle at the bottom of your screen no matter how many years it stands on your table or hangs on your wall. No, it’s not going to harm your TV internally to lay it down. Special ventilation is only suggested if you have a built-in tv enclosed in the table.

How can I play the motion maps?

All media players are suitable, yet I recommend using Quicktime on Mac and Movies & TV app works nicely on Windows. The  Dynamic Dungeons Editor and Player can loop the videos smoothly. Additionally, it offers the advantage of playing videos with quad and hex grids, fog of war settings, tokens, and particle effects.

Am I allowed to use the maps on a roleplaying live stream?

Yes, I'm happy to see my maps in action. Please mention or give credit in the description to Dynamic Dungeons. The preferred citation is the URL to my Patreon page, which is:  https://www.patreon.com/dynamicdungeons

Questions related to Patreon, support and tier levels

How much does it cost to be a patron per month?

As I usually add two or three rewards per month, it will cost you 10 or 15 dollars a month to be a chaotic good patron. Patrons who support every (which means 3) creation in the month get extra maps and special rewards. You can delete your support at any time.

How am I entitled to the exclusive rewards?

If you want to make sure you get all the maps, choose the Chaotic Good tier and support every creation every month. (Supporting 3 creation means the same) This will also entitle you to exclusive map versions.

There are three conditions for obtaining exclusive versions:

1. You are a Chaotic Good Patron

2. You supported all creations in the previous month (3 or all of them)

3. You did not stop the support in the current month. (your setting is still 3 or all)

I will send out the exclusive folders in a private patreon message when posting. If you didn’t get the exclusive map because you haven’t met the requirements yet, don’t worry! Support all 3 creations this month and receive the exclusive content of this month early next month.

Can the maps be purchased separately?

My maps are only available through Patreon for the time being, yet the older maps will soon be available separately and in thematic packs.

Is there a list of the previously released maps?

Yes, here’s the list:  PATREON ARCHIVE

If I decide to become a supporter, will I have access to previously released maps?

Yes, you will have free, instant access to all (more than 300) previously released maps, which you can download without making any additional payments. When joining, you can choose a donation tier for future releases.

What is a map pack?

A reward consists of more than a single map and instead involves at least two or even more designs. New releases contain a plain version in the style of the motion maps. I make a number of map variations so the scenes could be used in multiple ways. I will strive to provide an increasing amount of content for future rewards.

I am a CG patron, yet are there any posts I have no access to?

Old LN and NG posts contain less stuff than CG. The only reason they are closed is to avoid misleading duplicates and unnecessary system message notifications. If you are a CG patron you can be sure that you have access to everything and there is no extra content among LN and NG posts. There are exclusive versions made for nearly every map pack, so make sure you support every or three creations to gain access to everything.

Can I recommend themes?

Yes, I’m happy to hear your suggestions and I’ll do my best to satisfy the requests that inspire me, yet Patreon is fundamentally a platform of support that puts a great deal of emphasis on creative freedom.

Do you also make maps to order?

That depends on how much time I have left in the month apart from the works through Patreon. Should you have any questions, get in touch through the dynamicdungeons@gmail.com address.

Tribe Intro

Welcome to Roleplaying & Miniatures tribes! It is great to have you around! I'm Jacob, I'm also a DM and the solo 3D sculptor at Roleplaying & Miniatures!

Here on Roleplaying & Miniatures Tribes you decide what gets sculpted. Let me show you how!

Every month I collect all your suggestions from comments and Discord (poll-suggestions-and-themes). With those suggestions I set up a poll each month. After combining the results from Tribes and Patreon, the 6-10 top voted miniatures become part of next month release. With this system you can count on having a vary collection of miniatures each month! Also, whenever a chosen miniature has some theme around them you can expect it to come along side some kind of extra feature or piece of scenery.

On Discord you will be able to interact with the whole community and discuss your takes on the miniatures, share ideas, references, inspiring descriptions. It has been a lot of fun since we decided to go for this voting system! From time to time I hold painting contest. Those are organized on Discord as well.

You can find the Discord link on the Welcome post!

Thank you for your support!
