• Removal of the Cyberwarfare Phase: The dedicated phase for Cyberwarfare will be eliminated (some players are a bit confusing with this rules), making hacking actions available throughout regular phase. Streamlined rules utilizing current dice mechanics with a small twist. No need to print additional materials.
• Advanced Hacking Actions: Players will have more options and strategic depth when executing hacking attempts. Hacking will influence the game environment dynamically.
• Dice Pooling System: Hacking attempts will now use a dice pool mechanic. Players will roll a pool of dice based on their hacker's skills, equipment, environmental factors and hacker program (some of them already exist). Game factors allow to add, deduct, re-roll or modify rolls. Outcomes will be determined by comparing rolls against target defenses or thresholds, with both successes and failures carrying immediate consequences.
• Risk and Reward Balance: Hacking will be high-stakes. Successful hacks can grant powerful advantages, but failures may activate security protocols or attract counterattacks, adding a tactical layer to decisions.

In Sleepless City, warrior monks surfaced during the Heian Epoch 2.0, sparking intense data wars between rival megacorp temples and subsects of Neo-Buddhism over top slots in the sōkan network (High Abbot spots). For years, cyber skirmishes and political hacks were all about these power struggles, centered around the mega-temples—the biggest and most influential spiritual hubs in the urban sprawl. Cyborg soldiers exhibited unparalleled capabilities in endurance, reflexes, and pain tolerance, surpassing those of ordinary individuals. The groundbreaking ability to digitize the consciousness of highly skilled experts shed new light on the issues of casualties during missions and potential PTSD. In theory, the prospect of creating backup copies seemed promising, but reality took a different path. The implementation of Human Interfaces proved to be highly intricate and prohibitively expensive. Moreover, it spurred the rapid development of anti-cyborg weaponry, with combat software emerging as the most lethal, capable of disrupting bionic body functions and even seizing total control. For politicians and the military, the nightmare of losing command over their own soldiers became a stark reality. However, it turned out to be a somewhat acceptable trade-off, as the benefits of this new technology far outweighed the risks. Nonetheless, contingencies were put in place, with the creation of a Plan B. Enter the Black Stone Commandos, a specialized unit dedicated to reconnaissance, assault, and counter-terrorism in environments where encounters with cyborg soldiers are likely.
